2021 Heritage Awards celebratory evening enjoyed by all!
On 15 September, the Northamptonshire Heritage Forum committee held a fabulous evening to celebrate the very best of our county’s heritage.
Following the Awards ceremony held over Zoom, the award winners received their plaques in person at a reception held in the newly reopened Northampton Museum and Art Gallery. Representatives from North Northamptonshire and West Northamptonshire Councils, the University of Northampton and John Griff DL congratulated the winners who had all delivered excellent projects over the last two years, despite the restrictions imposed by the pandemic.
Martin Lawrence, the NHF chair, welcomed the guests and congratulated all the winners. After the awards were presented by judges and sponsors, John Griff DL, representing our Patron Earl Spencer, presented the ‘Heritage Organisation of the Year’ to Northampton Museum and Art Gallery. Despite being closed for refurbishment and having to deal with several unexpected issues, the team had stayed active in the community whilst delivering innovative digital engagement, and adding to their social history collection. And their successful reopening this summer has revealed sparkling new galleries, and a beautiful new space in the cultural heart of Northampton, linking the Victorian museum building with the old Georgian gaol block.
John Griff summed up the Awards reflecting that the inspiration energy and enthusiasm demonstrated by the winners spoke to the very heart of our Northamptonshire community. He reminded us that we are all part of a single county, and that this should never be overlooked. Our administrative boundaries should never get in the way of what we do to celebrate our shared stories and heritage. We are a great county filled with resourceful people, and a shared heritage to experience and enjoy together.
